The ISO catalog entry for ISO 10218-1:2025 establishes guidelines for industrial robots as partly completed machinery and says it is not applicable to medical, military (defence), airborne and space, healthcare or service robots. A separate ISO catalog bundle pairs ISO 10218-1 with ISO 10218-2. Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 is the EU machinery text the directory cites alongside it.

Editorial judgment — buyer checklist:

  1. Is the product an industrial robot as partly completed machinery, or one of the excluded categories? If excluded, ISO 10218-1 is the wrong frame.
  2. Which edition does the vendor name? Universal Robots PolyScope names both EN ISO 10218-1:2011 certification and ISO 10218-1:2025 clause 5.1.16 on its Safety FAQ.
  3. Does the claim concern the robot’s safety function or an AI application running on top of it? Neither official page we cite says ISO 10218-1 covers a learned perception model.

This checklist is analyst content and not a conformity assessment.
