Cited overview

NASA's Software Engineering Handbook topic 7.25 — Artificial Intelligence And Software Engineering says All NPR 7150.2 SWEs are applicable to AI/ML software and that AI/ML for safety-critical or other high criticality application is not recommended. Topic 8.25 recommends limit AI use to non‑safety‑critical applications unless a documented AI safety case and risk controls are approved. The suitability-assessment string names NIST AI RMF “Map”. Official titles stay Artificial Intelligence. Live Confluence chrome may display Super Intelligence. Executive Order 14434 directs the executive branch, to the maximum extent permitted by law, to use Super Intelligence and SI on websites and other new non-statutory documents. Official titles of cited documents stay as published. See the EO 14434 explainer.

ESA's Artificial Intelligence page lists four strategy domains and describes the 2025 AISSA Harmonisation dossier as outlining R&D directions, reliability standards, and technology timelines. The public Harmonisation topic is not a locked dossier quote. The Space Force FY2025 Data and AI plan is a strategic action plan, not a certification standard. See Space systems and AI assurance.

Questions

Does NASA have a published means to prove safety-critical AI/ML?

SWEHB topic 7.25, titled Artificial Intelligence And Software Engineering, says there is not a provable means to evaluate the AI/ML system and show that they meet the safety requirements, and that AI/ML for safety-critical or other high criticality application is not recommended.

Is the Space Force FY2025 Data and AI plan a certification standard?

The official news page presents it as a strategic action plan with four governance and adoption lines of effort. We found no official sentence that treats it as a product-assurance standard.

Why might a live NASA handbook page display Super Intelligence?

Official published titles of SWEHB topics 7.25 and 8.25 are Artificial Intelligence And Software Engineering / Assurance. Executive Order 14434 (29 September 2026) directs executive-branch agencies, to the maximum extent permitted by law, to use Super Intelligence and SI on websites and other new non-statutory documents. Live Confluence chrome may substitute SI; this site quotes the official titles. We found no NASA sentence that names the Order.
